We open on a beautiful spring day, blue sky, with sparse clouds. And we see a large greasy black razorcrow takeoff in flight. And we follow it as it soars through the sky As we pan east following a river. We see a town just off the river. As we zoom in toward the town, we see a wooden sign that reads "falcons hollow- only the desperate and the brave" . We zoom out as we pan over the town and We see shops and inns and taverns and as we continue north we see several large lumber mills, the air thick with saw dust, we hear the sawing of wood, the thwacking of steel against tree trunks just inside a dense and foreboding wooded area that seems to stretch on forever with thousands and thousands of trees, reaching miles into the sky and in the distance we see the outline of a massive, looming volcano. It begins to shake and then boom a thrum of energy pulsates out in a wave. Ca caw we see a razorcrow glide to a landing atop a stone statue and as we pan up to its head we see its pitch black eyes blink, now glazed over with a sickly yellow tinge and we fade out.
Welcome to Falcon's Hollow, a town in
Darkmoon Vale, in the nation of
Andoran. The settlement sits only a short distance from
Darkmoon Wood, a treacherous wilderness rumored to be haunted with fey and beasts and unsavory creatures, and is little more than a logging village, comprised mostly of
lumberers in the employ of the
Lumber Consortium and their families. With few exceptions, the buildings and their inhabitants belong to the Consortium and totally depend on the overpriced goods delivered by the organization.
It is said that in times long past dwarves settled in the surroundings of Falcon's Hollow; rumors persist that forgotten treasures of their fallen civilization yet remain to be found. Yet today it is a place for the desperate with no other place to go, for outcasts and religious zealots seeking to avoid hindrances brought on by their surroundings, and adventurers looking to explore the ancient ruins in hopes of finding treasures and artifacts of a time long forgotten.
Those of you that have been here for years, months or even weeks, would know that the town is owned by Thuldrin Kreed, the ruthless and corrupt leader of the Lumber Consortium. He rules with an iron fist and there's little and less that happens here that he doesn't know about. He employs fear and intimidation to keep the citizens of falcons hollow in check.
We fade back in and pan back to the town and zoom in on a large white stone building with a banner outside the door. Emblazoned on the banner is a white and gold sword in front of a burning sun. A temple of iomedae the inheritor. We see a figure walking up to the door, and as they enter tell us what we see dave. As they continue in, they overhear a heated discussion between a woman and a young man. " Thudlrin has filled your head with false promises, sam, cant you see that? Please, dont do this. The temple needs you. Ive lost too many apprentices and you've shown such promise. Dont abandon iomedae." And the young man hands her back his robes and says "I'm sorry Cirthana, i don't think this is the life for me anymore." "And what of barlus? I need your help". And as the young man leaves, the woman notices the new comer and says
Oh I didn't see you there. Sorry you had to hear that, my name is Cirthana. Welcome to the temple of iomedae. What can I do for you?
Just another promising cleric, led astray from the faith by thuldrin. All of my apprentices succumb to his bribes and corruption.
Not from around here eh? Thuldrin Kreed is the leader of the Lumber Consortium but he basically owns the whole town. He's denounced the temple and the faith and meddling in town affairs and the townsfolk are so scared of him they stay clear.
A dear friend of mine, Barlus, he went hunting in the darkmoon wood and I fear something terrible has happened. It's been a week and he's never gone usually for more than a few days.
He came to the temple and asked me to bless his upcoming hunt. He mentioned using one of the logging camps as a staging area before heading into the forest so I went over there to ask questions to no avail.
You'll want to speak with sheriff baleson before heading in to the Darkmoon Wood. He mentioned he may be able to help.
